Welcome to 2015.
A new era in fashion and high-end designs hitting the market daily whether that be in your closest Macy’s or the never ending codes of the internet.
Throughout the history of our world, it has been documented, whether through, art, photography and/or film, the importance of how we look in our respective microcosms. There were multiple reasons to this. Many of them included politics, economics, music and even literature to some extent. But sadly, those who decided to fight against your average social norm was ridiculed and crucified. That statement no matter how blatant or harsh is true and will continue to be for years to come. The past doesn’t lie.
BUT FORGET THAT! PARTY TIME IS EVIDENT NOW…
Where have we gotten?
We’ve reached a point in our lives as an American culture where our political and social hemispheres have now begun to soothe and warm the hearts of so many around the world. With the increasing acceptance of Gay Rights, the HUGE probability of having a female President in the dawn of 2016 and the internet’s power to help us connect, boast, report and educate growing daily – we’re moving into a bigger picture.
In Sacha Jenkin’s directorial debut, Fresh Dressed, a film about the evolution of urban style in America, I believe Pharrell Williams puts it very sweetly toward the film’s ending… we are moving into the freedom style era.
We’re more intelligent than we’ve ever been. We’re more happy than we’ve ever been. And although freedom is a tricky thing and has been a constant struggle for countless amounts of many in this space where “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is a given human right, we’re more free than we’ve ever been. And even if you don’t agree that you are free, know that you should not be afraid to show that you’re ready to fight for it with what you wear. Soldiers wear uniforms when they go to war, and that’s exactly what we’ve began to do day after day.
We’ve came a long way…
No one is insecure about how they look the way it used to somehow sneak upon us in childhood years ago. Now, street after street is filled with characters. Street after street is filled with life. Street after street becomes radical, emotional, placid cathedrals – little slices of heaven. When you wake up in the morning, aside you dressing to match up with your social vicinity (your school, your job, your family), you have began to dress how you feel. And, this is accepted, more often than not even helping fellow citizens to understand your current mood and confidence. You wake up and feel super extravagant, you probably are going to add something to your look that is the utmost extravagant. But, if you feel terrible in the morning, you’re not going to throw on the bright colors of the American flag and scream “YAY” to the world. Human emotion is the map of our humanity. Safely said, that’s why every era has a look, the 50′s (ie. the “perfect” life), the 60′s (ie. the tranquility life), the 70′s (ie. the party life) all the way up to now. It’s become incredibly impossible to currently live within facades. So take them off, because those who put their foot down and “do their own thing” are respected across the board. Oh, and even better, we’re willing to help you get there as well. I mean, at least I know I am.
Popular Culture
Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj look like Barbies. When was that a thing? The Black Eyed Peas recreated the definition of Hipster. Why is it that they didn’t care about whether people would dislike it? Why is it that most people don’t dislike it? Why have people began to just loosen up and some even began to follow those type of styles?
People believe that individuality in our communities should be stressed because it’s important that we all strive for independence. But this always has been preached and not nearly followed through enough. Today, we have more resources to allow such things, including pop-icon “role models” to shape. One now has the ability to look on the television or watch videos online of the people that he/she looks up to and learn from them. It’s a beautiful thing and seeing it manifest now with artists arriving on the scene like the ones previously stated and even artists like Pharrell Williams, Tyler, the Creator, Logic, Chance the Rapper, and others who have been understood to have such keen senses of fashion has allowed us to look up and say, “Lead the way” – not ever fearing their choices. These people have shown us that freedom and the understanding of oneself alongside their independence, brings you success. And surely, those who follow will do even better jobs than them – so why not follow? It’ll all pay off in the end of our lives on this mysterious planet if we always endeavor to be the epitome of our dreams and never stray from that vision. We’ll live with no regrets – live free.
So Live
Getting on the train today is sometimes one of the most interesting experiences you may gain, why you ask? It’s because the real human beings out there, the independent, the proud, the happy? They want to be how they look. They look the way feel. And they feel free – therefore they are free. And if they feel that strongly, you should as well.
That’s where we’ve gotten to and that’s where hopefully we’ll stay long enough. We deserve a vacation. We deserve it all.
