Record Executive Produced by Legendary Saxophonist Richie Cannata
From Amir Royale
“People Say” is a testament to a different me. A different place and time from today that not only myself — but everyone fathoms — at least once. It doesn’t exist today, it doesn’t exist tomorrow. Maybe it’s been a year since it’s events—maybe the events are currently happening — maybe they are yet to happen or never will. The confusion of it all is the reason why I’m showing it to you. It’s the reason why I’m alone and by myself with the tools I’ve always thought could best help me explain what keeps happening to me. And as always, from an honest place — I love you for taking the time to be here and listen. At least for right now. Tah, tah — my darlings.

“My whole point in making this song was to make a statement about the fact that I exist. I want people to know that, because I’ve felt ignored and unseen for so long and because I’ve heard what other people say about me,” Royale said. “I’ve also heard this happen to other people as well—and I’m done with it happening to me. So, I can help you. I exist, and you exist, and we are all in this together.”
Royale wrote the lyrics to the entire record and produced the instrumental, which includes drums, keyboards, and piano, among various other sounds. The electric guitar riffs were recorded by Morristown, NJ pop/R&B artist DOMENICO, who is a frequent collaborator with Royale. The single was first performed at The Venue, Berlin in Germany’s capital city in December 2018.
The record was produced at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, NY, a prominent institution founded by legendary saxophonist Richie Cannata, who is an executive producer of the record as well. Cove City counts Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, NSYNC, LL Cool J, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Jon Bellion, and Hall & Oates as clients. Cannata, who played saxophone for Billy Joel’s band, and played with the Beach Boys, owns the studio with his son, Eren, a Los Angeles-based songwriter. Currently, Cannata is the musical director of former New York Yankees outfielder Bernie Williams’ band.
The single was mastered by Chris Gehringer of Sterling Sound, who has mastered records for Drake, Rihanna, Cardi B, KYLE, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, and Nas. The record’s cover art was imagined by Royale and realized by Arríanna Santíago from the School of Visual Arts and for SPECTRUMM Animations.
